If Kid's Behaviour Isn't Getting Better Then You're Not Doing It Right!

If Kid's Behaviour Isn't Getting Better Then You're Not Doing It Right!

by Liz Marsden

Oh dear, what a harsh heading to this article. But the fact is that if children are behaving badly and your techniques aren't changing things then you're doing the wrong things. Children's behaviour should be an issue for all the school, but even in separate classrooms, if you want things to improve then you have to use effective behaviour management techniques - if you aren't then you won't get the results you want. But, there is good news. With little extra effort you can learn the skills you need to change children's behaviour and have them behaving the way you want.

If you want to master any skill the process is the same. Find out what you have to do, practise the techniques to become proficient and then go on with the skills to become increasingly confident and a better practitioner. My skills have grown over years - Behaviour Bible tells you about my first days managing children's very challenging behaviour. Well, managing is the wrong word - it was a disaster! I hadn't a clue what I was doing and the kids knew it ... it was awful... I see so many people in that situation in schools I visit.

I had no choice but to develop management techniques that would give me the results I needed to manage these very challenging children. But, there were no courses - I was on my own and I had to learn quickly. I use my very successful behaviour management strategies in my classroom every day and I pass on my knowledge and experience to teachers, parents, ancillary workers and dinner staff so they can become confident too. And believe me, you can see positive results in just a few minutes. Manage behaviour in the right way and you get a completely different response from the children - they just know and sense the difference in you..

In the intervening years the situation in mainstream schools has worsened. Bad behaviour is now so commonplace there's a danger that it's being considered normal by some people. There doesn't seem to be a great deal of shock that some children behave in a totally appalling way. In some schools I sense an acceptance that this is to be expected and there's a learned helplessness amongst the adults - a raising of the eyebrows in a 'well what can we do about it?', sort of way.

Where do you start? Well, you have to decide whether what you're doing is giving you the results that you want. Usually when I ask someone this question the answer is, 'No'. In that case I'm afraid that you have to accept that you have to make some changes in your approach to behaviour management. Believe me, when you do this, your life in the classroom becomes massively easier - reduced stress, better results. You can't lose!

You can get all you need to know about successfully managing children's behaviour in Behaviour Bible. A successful and productive classroom is within your grasp. Read about the techniques, practise them and use them consistently.

Teach Your Kids To Save During Recession

Teach Your Kids to Save During Recession

by Rebekah Smith

Economic slowdown is taking its toll and numerous U.S. citizens right this minute are feeling the pinch as hundreds of thousands of people are losing their homes, employment and future. High costs of gasoline and essential goods are also making it tougher for American households to survive without additional income. During these times, individuals are thinking of ways on how to economize which is particularly true for families that look after one, two or more kids. Between feeding them and sending them all to school, these households will certainly have to cut back in some places in order to survive.

Nevertheless, it's not just adults who need to be responsible because taking care of the finances in a recession, youngsters can also have an important role. In point of fact, they can use these tight times to instruct their youngsters about saving for the future. This will help them deal with tougher times in the future should they experience it when they have their oen families to look after. Below are some of the methods that you can teach your children about saving up.

Oftentimes it is hard for parents to accept but our children can be understanding and when you explain the situation to them clearly, with examples that they can relate to, they will be able to understand. Many will even help you of their own volition without you telling them what they need to do, because instructing them as to the reasons why they should do something is more effective than telling them straight-out. The last mentioned will often antagonize them or will get them to rebel as they sense you are give them orders without any cause. Having money boxes may seem out-of-date in this digital age but it is nonetheless still impressive in teaching children how to save up.

Tell them that laying aside will permit them to have some funds should they have to buy something that they want. A share of their lunch money - for example a quarter or two, is a good way to begin. Naturally, do not deter them from buying food when they must eat but tell them that if they are not hungry, they can save the money so that they can use more for the next day.

You need to watch how much food you give them which will help control their desire to eat big meals. Always ask them to wash their plates each time - that way they will only get the food that they will be able to eat. This will teach them about saving and buying only the things that they require. This is a good coaching for the future so they won't become adults with 'maxed out' credit cards, purchasing items that they do not actually need. Let's be honest ,whatever your kid does is only a mirror of what you yourself are doing at home, so if you want the children to begin saving up, make certain that you are also doing your part in saving in these times of economic downturn.

Children's Behaviour Not Improving? You Can't Be Doing It Right!

Children's Behaviour Not Improving? You Can't Be Doing It Right!

by Liz Marsden

The heading is hard hitting. Am I saying that if kids' behaviour isn't good then you're not managing them correctly? Yes, that's exactly what I'm saying. In the whole school or in your own classroom if you have behaviour problems and you want to improve the situation but it isn't happening then you have to change what you're doing. The good news is that this can easily be done - yes, I mean it! Any one of you can learn the strategies you need to manage children's behaviour successfully. You need the skill and the confidence - these enable you to succeed.

Whether you're a footballer, painter or a plasterer, learning and improving your skill is the same. You have to be told what the techniques are, go off and practise them to become proficient and confident, and then keep on doing it over and over to make the successful strategies instinctive. I am extremely confident now but my skill and confidence has grown over years. I write in Behaviour Bible about when I first started working with children displaying extreme behaviour. I can't use the words 'managing behaviour' because I wasn't managing - I was a disaster. I had no idea how to manage challenging behaviour. Unfortunately so many people in schools are in the same position today as I was then.

So, you have to ask yourself, 'Is what I am doing to manage behaviour getting the results I want?' If the answer is, 'No', then you're not doing it right - you have to accept that you have things to learn and changes to make. Then, life becomes a great deal easier, less stressful and more productive. It's a win/win situation.

Behaviour Bible tells you what you need to know about managing potentially difficult behaviour situations and creating a successful and productive classroom. Read, practise and implement.
